How the World Cup Works

A 30-second primer before you dive in.

48 teams, 12 groups

Teams are split into groups of 4. Everyone plays the other three in their group once.

Points

Win = 3 points, Draw (tie) = 1 point, Loss = 0. Most points tops the group.

Group stage → Knockouts

The top finishers advance to a single-elimination bracket. Lose once and you're out.

Tiebreakers

If points are equal: goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head.

What's a "draw"?

In the group stage games can end tied. In knockouts, ties go to extra time, then penalties.

The final

One match decides the champion — held at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.

Standings

Betting Odds

US moneyline odds for upcoming matches.

New to odds? A negative number (e.g. −150) is the favorite — you'd bet $150 to win $100. A positive number (e.g. +260) is the underdog — a $100 bet wins $260. The win % is the implied chance baked into the odds.
